I think that's a good call, John. Balance is important. As much as I love the idea of kids learning from their own mistakes, they also have to learn to respect the informed advice of others - like the sound advice of waiting until at least version 2 when purchasing any new technology. Nothing wrong with learning to learn from both your own mistakes AND the mistakes of others (also known as wisdom). She'll thank you someday...
I am 99% confident that once she gets the new iPad Mini, she will be happy she waited. She might even tell me that I was right...because she's 9. Were she 15...forget it.
